20 Years & Counting

Twenty Year Wedding Anniversary
Twenty years ago today my wife and I stood before a priest in Our Lady of Lords Catholic church and promised to love and cherish one another for the rest of our lives. Two completely different people, a quiet loner and a socialite, one who likes the tranquility of the forests while the other likes the lights and flash of Vegas. The odds seemed against these two kids who wanted to start a life together, but it’s worked out and I wouldn’t have had it any differently.

Since that warm evening twenty years ago we have raised four girls, two dogs, two iguanas, three cats, two gerbils, two hamsters, a rat, a guinea pig and an assortment of different fish. We have been together as family members were born, died, went through good times and bad. We’ve shared the best times of our lives and stood together through some of the worst.

Half of our lives we have spent with one another, learning more about each other and getting closer every day. I don’t buy her books for Christmas and she doesn’t buy me clothes for my birthday. We know one another better than we know anyone else. For twenty years we have built up a trust, not only with faithfulness, but with emotions and ideas that we share with no one else. We don’t always see eye-to-eye, but we know where the other one stands without having to ask.

It’s been a great twenty years and I love her more as each year passes. I can’t wait to see how the next twenty years turns out…
